Cocaine coast

Gardai in Cork, Ireland have seized 1.5 tonnes of cocaine drifting off the coast in bags, after they were thrown overboard when a boat that was smuggling them in was capsized in stormy weather. They say it is worth more than 100 million euros. Some packages are still “drifting on the surface” apparently, but bad weather has hampered the search for them. Each package – get this – is worth 1.75 million euros. That’s more than $2,000,000 in US money. They’ve sealed off Dunlough Bay, where the boat was. The Taoiseach has said it was weather conditions, not intelligence, that made the seizure. Ah Bertie, why slag off the Cork Gardai?

Anyway, the cleanup operation will be massive. Gardai are looking for volunteers. What with that lousy weather and everything, it’ll be a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.
